wisdom from myself, for myself

With all the wisdom and knowledge I see outside me every day, I often forget the wisdom that I, myself, have. This is the wisdom I have for myself today. What wisdom do you have for yourself?

. . .

Be wary of people who tell you not to wear white after Labor Day.

When a well-intentioned person speaks to you (or tweets you or emails you or sends you a letter), respond.

Your energy is more important than what you say. Don’t worry about sounding silly. Your people know you mean well.

Always take off your shoes in people’s homes, even if they say you don’t need to.

Wear loud socks, preferably ones that don’t match. Befriend the people who like this most.

Feel your feelings as much as you can.

When you need a cookie recipe, look in The Good Cookie first. It has never let you down.

When you get in a funk, exercise or sleep.

Befriend weirdos.

Sink into discomfort. See how much you can stand.

Be curious about the way people live, even and especially when it’s different from your way.

Don’t assume you know what people mean.

Assume that people like you until proven otherwise.

Stop and smell the lilacs. Make sure there aren’t any bees there when you do.

When someone asks you to take a day off work to go on vacation, do so.

Don’t discuss religion or politics unless you’re in the mood for it.

Try new foods.

Buy underwear that are comfortable. Throw out the pairs that aren’t.

Always assume you need more time to get things done than you think you do.

Assume that people mean well.

When your girlfriend gets mad at you, give her a hug.

Make a suggestion once. If someone doesn’t take it, let it go.

Don’t drink caffeine. You will think it won’t affect you, and you will be wrong.

Buy Trader Joe’s dark chocolate peanut butter cups, not Reese’s. Reese’s don’t taste all that good.

If you don’t like your doctor, keep looking. There’s a better one out there.

Ask questions.

I LOVE this list! As I read, I highlighted, copied and intended to paste my favorites here to comment on specifically, but there are just too many good ones. Thanks for the great read, Kylie!

You must be an old soul. I refuse to believe someone so young can be so wise. I’m so lucky to have you as my friend.

Mel: Thank you dear! It’s good to remember how smart we really are, when it comes to ourselves.

Louise: I’m so pleased this stuff resonated with you. Sending hugs from afar.

Michelle: Ooh; an old soul?! I’m not sure. Now I’m going to need to look into my previous lives. And I feel the same way about you, you bundle o’ polka-dotted joy.

Natasha: Your contribution to the photo pretty much made it. Let’s just be honest, you know?

I so enjoyed this. Great advice! And how did you know I’m looking for a better doctor? :)

That part about caffeine…how would you say it affects one?

This is a beautiful meditation Kylie!

Carol: I feel like the majority of us are often on the prowl for a better doctor. Harumph at the majority of the medical profession.

La Alicia: Crazy sock wearers unite!

Kathryn: Ah, sweetie! Sending much love back. And yes, puh-LEEZE plan an East Coast trip soon. We’ll be social caterpillars and butterflies alternatingly, and it’ll be grand.

Amy: Well, all this stuff is wisdom for me, myself, so I’m just speaking for me. But for me, a super duper sensitive person, it makes me uuuber energized/gleeful, followed by sadness and an inability to fall asleep for like 12 hours. So yeah: pretty much I just wanna avoid it. But for other people caffeine ain’t no thang. To each her own.

When someone asks you to take a day off work to go on vacation, do so.

I tend to forget that one frequently. I work work work and then wonder why I’m miserable.

    Love the wisdom.

    Ahh…also being super-sensitive this is super-helpful info :)

I had not noticed the sadness after..will watch for it.

    Love,

Cat: Yes, that is SO important. I nearly didn’t do it once and almost missed a trip to Hawaii. Looking back, that short vacation was my favorite EVER. So glad I took the day off.

Amy: Yep, I haven’t heard the sadness part from others. But I’m sure it does exist for some. You’ve reminded me that it’s good to have these conversations with other HSPs.

I read “Sink into discomfort. See how much you can stand.” as: “sink into COMFORT. See how much you can stand.” Hee.

For me, the second (sinking into comfort) is often even harder than sinking into discomfort. Actually, I’ve been wanting to write a post about that – thanks for the reminder and the inspiration!

Larisa: Love it! I hadn’t thought of that before, but I absoLUTely find it harder, oftentimes, to sink into comfort than discomfort. Now I’m really looking forward to what you have to say about that.
