friday fizz, the third

This is a fantastic piece on the performance of masculinity. “One of the primary reasons that boys and men gay bash and bully queers is that they need to perform masculinity in order to show the world that they’re in the Box. And since very few guys can always be in the Box for their entire lives, the trick is to act like you are in order to cover for any lapses.”

What’s the Point of Popular? by Seth Godin.

The forward for the New York Rangers, Sean Avery, publicly voiced his support for marriage equality. Which is particularly wonderful when you think about all the intersections between sports and masculinity and queerness (see above).

By now, I’m hoping you all know how I feel about brightly colored, mismatched socks. Well, I just now found out about Little Miss Matched. I KNOW. I feel a need for socks coming on. Especially because their categories include fuzzy, kooky and sparkle socks. Yeah.

Larisa wrote this seriously remarkable piece about having a wallow to wallow in. Like bison! I didn’t know that bison wallowed. Or that any animals wallowed, for that matter. I didn’t know that wallowing was a thing, except a thing that refers to emotions. Now I do.

Silly straw glasses! A must for every happy hour, in my opinion.

So summer school is happening on June 18th at the Ace Hotel in Portland. And it sounds way better than any summer school ever before.

All of the things you’re secretly scared might be true, from J. Maureen Henderson.

Have you heard about Letters of Note yet? Reading these letters is touching, entertaining, and so humanizing. A reminder that famous people are still people.

. . .

Wishing you all a weekend full of fuzzy socks and silly straws.

Dear Kylie, Thank you for the ongoing enlightenment. Why is there not a mistermatched? Probably a miniscule market for men who would wear kooky, mismatched socks. I love the zany soccer ball. Who knew what cool toys could be found at Paper Source. I also enjoyed reading letters of note. This was a lovely sunday morning read. Take care, love Bill

Bill: Good point! There should definitely be a mistermatched. Perhaps you could be their spokesperson? Very glad you enjoyed the links.
